Thoughts:

There’s no point denying it. Disney’s first feature-length animated film is a stone-cold masterpiece and one of the great marvels of cinema history. The story is simpler than future Disney films would prove to be, but the animation, hand-drawn and rich with the saturation of technicolor, is a marvel nearly 100 years later. (The human animation in particular is astonishingly vivid and lifelike.) The film’s music and archetypal characters would prove to be iconic for years and years to come, and for good reason. It’s an unforgettable mix of delightful elements delivered with impressive care and mastery, all in the service of a dream that animated films could be genuine works of art. A monument for the ages..
