Paisan

GRADE: 10

The language barrier has tragic consequences in a series of unrelated stories set during the Italian Campaign of WWII.

Original Title: Paisà
Director: Roberto Rossellini
Country: Italy

THOUGHTS:

Honestly, the first story of the six is so good, than in and of itself it would be a masterpiece. The other stories are great, as well, but the first and last are the real strokes.

The idea of language barriers making an already catastrophic situation that much more tragic is a stroke in and of itself. The senseless inhumanity of it all is really brought home in a unique and effecting way.
