Thoughts:
I watched this because it appears on a list of 1000 great films from They Shoot Picture’s, Don’t They that I’ve been hoping to complete. Of all the movies I’ve seen on this list, this was the hardest to spend time with. War and otherwise violent/gory/depressing films were all easier to stomach. The Ladies Man is a series of slapstick pratfalls, sight gags, and hopelessly lame jokes that all live or die by one’s affinity for Jerry Lewis’ charmless, adult child routine. For me, it’s dead on arrival.
However it does have a wonderful set design, Lewis’ direction is somewhat inventive in its skit-by-skit aimlessness, and the color saturation is lovely.
