THOUGHTS:

My first post-New Wave Godard film was a surprise. It’s recognizably Godard–with all the formal experiments, technical subterfuge, and playful inter-titles one might expect. But the vibe is different: less revolutionary and challenging, more alienated and despairing. It’s a solid piece of work that fits within Godard’s oeuvre without making commercial compromises or relying on past successes. Impressive.
