Original Title: Kohayagawa-ke no aki
Director: Yasujirô Ozu
Country of Origin: Japan

Thoughts:

Another beautiful and moving film from Ozu, centered on the affairs of a modern Japanese family in 1961. The patriarch of the family is a kind and gentle man who hopes to see his two unmarried daughters find suitable spouses; meanwhile his own health and business are failing. It takes his passing for many of the central characters to make decisions about their lives. A lovely meditation on life and death that studiously avoids melodrama.
