THOUGHTS:
Another superb, melancholy comedy/drama from Mike Leigh, featuring a solid, stable family who are surrounded by a coterie of fascinatingly broken characters. Lesley Manville’s performance is funny, pathetic, heartbreaking, fascinating, and utterly unforgettable, but the entire cast is absolutely A grade. I never tire of Leigh’s improvisational work. He’s truly a master of the form.
