An American in Paris

GRADE:  8.5

Three friends struggle to find work in Paris. Things become more complicated when two of them fall in love with the same woman.

Director: Vincente Minnelli
Country of Origin: USA

Thoughts:

The story is skimpy, the jokes corny, and the Paris backdrop under-utilized. But the music is glorious, and Gene Kelly sing and dances like it’s always the greatest day of his life. The sub-plot about Kelly’s painting career goes absolutely nowhere, but the finale is so mega-charming it’s hard to get worked up about. A very good Kelly vehicle, but not on the level of Singing in the Rain.
